The Bharat Dalhan Seminar 2026 aims to bring together all key stakeholders of the Indian pulses ecosystem to deliberate on the emerging challenges and opportunities facing the sector. The seminar will serve as a collaborative platform to discuss a strategic roadmap for strengthening indigenous pulse production and addressing the persistent gap between domestic demand and supply.

Over the past several years, frequent short-term policy interventions and reactive decisions in the pulses trade have posed challenges for farmers, traders, processors, and other stakeholders across the value chain. In this context, the need for a liberal, stable, and long-term policy framework has become increasingly important to ensure domestic availability, strengthen supply chains, and support the growing consumption of pulses in India. The seminar will focus on identifying priority areas that require immediate attention to align indigenous production with the country’s steadily rising pulse consumption.

Aligned with the objectives of the National Pulses Mission, the seminar will also deliberate on policy, production, processing, and value addition strategies that support sustainable growth of the pulses sector while enhancing farmer incomes and nutritional security.

A key focus of the seminar will be to promote greater inclusion of pulses in the Indian diet, recognising their vital role in nutrition, food security, and overall nourishment.

The event, recommended by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, holds significant relevance for the entire pulses value chain. With an expected participation of over 1,000 delegates, including senior government officials, industry leaders, FPOs/FPCs, academic and research institutions, and international organisations, the seminar is envisioned as a meaningful forum for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with experts, exchange perspectives, and build valuable connections across the sector.

Key Objectives of the Seminar

  • To bring together stakeholders from across the entire pulses value chain, including FPOs and FPCs
  • To deliberate on the need for a liberal and long-term government policy framework to address the anticipated growth in domestic pulse consumption and bridge the gap between production and demand, in line with the National Pulses Mission
  • To explore opportunities for value addition in pulses, unlocking India’s potential to emerge as a global hub for plant-based food manufacturing
  • To discuss modernization of dal mills to reduce post-harvest losses and preserve the nutritional value of pulses

IPGA remains committed to leveraging the insights and outcomes of the Bharat Dalhan Seminar 2026 to support proactive and collaborative measures that align with the objectives of the Government, industry stakeholders, and farmers, contributing to a resilient and future-ready pulses sector.
