The Bharat Dalhan Seminar 2024 endeavors to unite all the stakeholders in the pulses ecosystem and address the key challenges faced by the Indian pulses sector in the future. The seminar will cover critical topics in paving a strategic roadmap toward increasing indigenous pulse production and bridging the gap between the demand and supply of pulses.
Over the past seven years, numerous short-term policy changes and knee-jerk decisions regarding the pulses trade have been detrimental to the interests of the farmers, trade, and all other stakeholders in the pulses value chain. A liberal and long-term policy framework for the pulses trade is the need of the hour to combat bottlenecks in the domestic pulses availability and to bolster supply as well as open avenues to ensure the availability of pulses, which will be commensurate with the rising demand for pulses in our country. Given this, the seminar will address issues and discuss strategies that warrant urgent attention to bridge the gap between indigenous production and ever-increasing domestic pulse consumption.
The seminar will also emphasize pulse inclusion and consumption in the Indian diet, prioritizing nutrition and nourishment.
The upcoming event, recommended by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, holds significant importance for all the contributors in the pulses value chain. With an estimated participation of more than 1000 delegates, including senior officials from the Government, Industry stalwarts, FPC/FPOs’, Academic and Research Institutions, and International Organizations, the seminar is poised to be a crucial platform for knowledge exchange and networking. Attendees can learn from industry experts, exchange ideas, and build valuable industry connections.
The main objectives of the Seminar:-
- To bring together all stakeholders from across the pulses value chain, including FPO/FPCs’
- To deliberate on the requirement of a Liberal and Long-term government policy to address the anticipated increase in domestic pulse consumption to bridge the gap between indigenous production and consumption
- The seminar will also focus on various aspects of value addition from pulses, unlocking India’s potential to become the global hub for manufacturing plant-based foods from pulses
- To deliberate on modernizing Dal Mills to reduce post-harvest losses of pulses and preserve nutritional value.
IPGA has committed to leveraging the insights from the seminar to implement proactive measures that align with the objectives of the government, industry, and farmers.
